From September 11 to 17, the annual Canadian Ski Guide Association (CSGA) Glacial Skills and Recurrent Training Camp hosted in the Mike Wiegele skiing tenure at Blue River, BC, brought in 23 students, from all over the world. On April 21, 2013 Mike Wiegele was made a life member of the Canadian Society of Mountain Medicine. Mike received the honor at a celebratory dinner in Whistler to mark the occasion and also to kick off the final week of training for mountain physicians enrolled in the first Canadian Diploma of Mountain Medicine course. The Canadian Diploma Course exists in part due to Mike’s advocacy at the International Commission for Alpine Rescue where the merit of such an undertaking in Canada needed champions. This past weekend, the Canadian Ski Guide Association hosted a Spring Ski Touring course for Youth. Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing Lead Guides Crosby Johnson and Scott Streadwick guided 8 aspiring ski guides into the backcountry terrain of the Cariboos. The course took place over 4 days and it introduced these guys to the skills of ski touring (or splitboarding) as well as winter camping and survival.
