Backcountry safety is always of prime importance in the heli-skiing and snowcat industries. From September 11 to 17, the annual Canadian Ski Guide Association (CSGA) Glacial Skills and Recurrent Training Camp hosted in the Mike Wiegele skiing tenure at Blue River, BC, brought in 23 students, from all over the world. Canadian Society of Mountain Medicine Honours Mike Wiegele

On April 21, 2013 Mike Wiegele was made a life member of the Canadian Society of Mountain Medicine. Mike received the honor at a celebratory dinner in Whistler to mark the occasion and also to kick off the final week of training for mountain physicians enrolled in the first Canadian Diploma of Mountain Medicine course. The Canadian Diploma Course exists in part due to Mike’s advocacy at the International Commission for Alpine Rescue where the merit of such an undertaking in Canada needed champions. CSGA Ski Touring Course at Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing

This past weekend, the Canadian Ski Guide Association hosted a Spring Ski Touring course for Youth. Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing Lead Guides Crosby Johnson and Scott Streadwick guided 8 aspiring ski guides into the backcountry terrain of the Cariboos. The course took place over 4 days and it introduced these guys to the skills of ski touring (or splitboarding) as well as winter camping and survival. CSGA Summer Glacier Skills Course

This weekend, the CSGA wrapped up the annual Summer Glacier Skills Course. Current and aspiring guides took part to further develop their skills in glacier travel, mountaineering, rope techniques, crevasse rescue, and route selection to name a few skills. The group spent 7 days in the Monashee Mountains where they experienced fresh snow, sun and everything in between. Junior Glacier Skills Course – Level 2

Building on more than 20 plus years of adventure, exploration and teaching, the 2nd annual Canadian Ski Guide Association Level 2 Junior Glacier Skills course was held August 27th -30th  in Blue River. Led by Assistant Operations Manager Elias Ortner and by Senior Lead Guide Tim McLean, 4 students where challenged by tall peaks, deep glaciers and inclement weather.
